Delivering his keynote speech at a conference entitled “Unlocking the potential of the digital economy in India and Southeast Asia”, jointly organised by CUTS International (www.cuts-international.org), the India-based international research and advocacy group and Thammasat University’s India Centre, Mr. Pansak Siriruchatapong, Vice Minister for Digital Economy and Society of Thailand shared rich information about how Thailand is going digital on all fronts, from human resources, infrastructure to government services and entrepreneurship development. Similarly, several “Digital India” initiatives are also being deployed with remarkable success, as shared by Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Commercial Representative of the Embassy of India in Thailand.

Uber’s Sale to Southeast Asian Rival Tests Regulators

Uber Technology Inc.’s plans to sell its Southeast Asian business to ride-hailing rival Grab is inviting antitrust scrutiny on multiple fronts, creating a major test case for the region’s young competition agencies.

Singapore and Vietnam launched investigations, the Philippines summoned the two companies for questioning, and Malaysia put both parties on notice. The regulators are asking whether the deal will lead to higher prices, fewer choices for consumers, poor service, or data privacy infractions.

Guidelines of UNEP: Providing product sustainability information for Consumers

The growth of sustainable products’ market is being hampered by greenwashing declarations and a series of inaccurate, unclear, incomparable, unproven, unreliable and unrelated information is surrounding consumers when they need to make sustainable consumption choices. The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the International Trade Center (ITC) are seeking global consultation on Guidelines for providing product sustainability information to solve the causes of all mentioned situations.
