Sale of fake health foods concerns consumers

Trade ministry confident in local retail competitiveness

– The Ministry of Industry and Trade believes that domestic firms will be able to compete with counterparts from other ASEAN countries after Vietnam joins the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) late this year.
Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang said domestic enterprises now hold 97% local retail and wholesale market share though Vietnam opened its doors to imports from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) decades ago.

British watchdog says bank competition still falls short

– LONDON – Moves to improve competition within Britain’s banking industry have not yet had the desired effect, the head of the competition watchdog said, raising the prospect that the country’s biggest banks could be broken up.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating the market for personal current accounts and small business banking services and will decide what measures must be taken by May 2016.

Food-safety violators will be fined, publicly outed

– HA NOI — Supermarket and residential market food safety inspection results will be open to the public in 2015, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said on February 4, 2015.
The names of food providers that violated food safety regulations and those that adhered to them would be made public to ensure customers’ right to access to safe food, Long said.

Petrol stations cheat customers in Dac Lac

– HA NOI — An investigation by the Dac Lac Province Market Watch has discovered that as many as 60 per cent of the privately owned gas pumps are cheating customers.
According to a report by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, the pumps are allegedly fixed with a kind of electric device that fraudulently miscounts the volume of gas pumped into the customers’ vehicles.
