9th Poverty and Economic Policy (PEP) Network General Meeting
AP attended the 9th Poverty and Economic Policy (PEP) Network General Meeting during 4-8th December 2011 in Siem Riep, Cambodia. On 8th December, she visited Phnom Penh to discuss with old partners there such as EIC (Economic Institute of Cambodia) and some contacts in the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia about the possibilities of cooperation for speeding up competition reforms in Cambodia.
PPWG’s meeting “Snapshot of Civil Society in Vietnam Anno 2011”
TT attended the PPWG’s meeting (People’s Participation Working Group) “Snapshot of Civil Society in Vietnam Anno 2011 – Presentation and Discussion of Recent Studies of Multiple Stakeholders” on Thursday 24 November 2011 at Press Club, 59 A Ly Thai To, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi. The meeting provided a platform for presentations and discussions of the latest civil society developments from the perspectives of various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, international NGOs, donors, media and government.
1st ASEAN Competition Conference
AP attended the 1st ASEAN Competition Conference, which was organized by the ASEAN Secretariat and the KPPU (Indonesian Competition Authority), with support from GIZ (former InWent project), the AADCP (ASEAN Australian Development Cooperation Programme) and JICA during the 15th and 16th of November 2011 in Bali, Indonesia.
Conference on “Competition Law and Trade”
On October 28th 2011, TT participated in a conference entitled “Competition Law and Trade” organised by Hanoi University of Foreign Trade within the framework of a SECO-funded project on building “Regional Competence Centres for Trade Law and Policy in South Africa, Peru and Vietnam”. Dr. Thomas Cottier from the World Trade Institute, University of Bern and Dr. Tang Van Nghia from Hanoi University of Foreign Trade were the speakers at the meeting.
Annual Conference in Asia of EFN on “Competition – Engine for Prosperity”
AP attended the 2011 Annual Conference in Asia of the Economic Freedom Network (EFN) entitled “Competition – Engine for Prosperity” jointly organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), the Centre for Public Policy Studies (CPPS) and the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) in Kuala Lumpur on the 11th & 12th of October 2011.
On the sidelines of the meeting, AP met and discussed about the UTPs project with partners in the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Launching Ceremony of the Consumer Trust Business Club organised by VINASTAS
TT attended the Launching Ceremony of the Consumer Trust Business Club organized by the Vietnam Standards and Consumer Protection Association (VINASTAS) at 8A Hoang Quoc Viet on September 29, 2011. There were approximately 100 participants in the meeting. Notably, the meeting was attended by Dr Doan Phuong, the Chairman of VINASTAS, Dr Ngo Quy Viet, the Director General of Directorate for Standards and Quality, representatives of local consumer associations, Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, Association of Vietnamese Retailers, trade associations, and the press.
3rd National Reference Group Meeting organised by STAMEQ
On September 22nd 2011, TT participated in the 3rd National Reference Group (NRG) Meeting organised by STAMEQ in the capacity building project entitled “Strengthening capacity on Sustainability Criteria for Bio Energy (ISO 13065) in South and Southeast Asia regions” implemented by South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) in partnership with the Swedish Standards Institute (SIS). The project is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The meeting brought together 6 NRG members (including CUTS HRC) and relevant stakeholders such as representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation (Petrolimex), etc to discuss further project activities in the future. The meeting was also in preparation of a Pre-Seminar session and the subsequent ISO/PC 248 WG 3 Meetings in Nairobi 2-3 and 4-6 October 2011.
BRICS Conference “Competition Enforcement under Economic Globalization”
RSG and AP took part in the second BRICS International Competition Conference that was held in Beijing (China) on 21-22 September 2011. The theme for the conference was “Competition Enforcement under Economic Globalization”.
On the sidelines of the meeting, AP and RSG had meetings with various people from different governmental agenices working on competition and intellectual property around the world attending the Conference.
