Global Meeting on the Review of the United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection

From 25 February to 1 March 2013, the Global Meeting on the Review of the United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection (UNGCP) was held in New Delhi, India. The meeting was aimed to collect comment and input into CI’s proposed amendments to the UN Guidelines on Consumer Protection, which would be submitted to UNCTAD for member states’ ratification and approval in July 2013. Alice Pham made a presentation on the competition policy chapter of the TPP, to which Vietnam is a negotiating partner during this event.

ISO pre-seminar and ISO plenary on the standard ISO 13065

An ISO pre-seminar training and an ISO plenary on the standard ISO 13065 were organized during January 17-25, 2013 in Brisbane, Australia within the framework of the SESA programme. Alice Pham took part in both the events.

Enhancing Provincial and Local Chambers of Commerce Capacities in Trade and Investment Facilitation along East-West Economic Corridor

A forum for trade and investment facilitation in the GMS organised by the Mekong Institute (MI) under the framework of a two-year project entitled “Enhancing Provincial and Local Chambers of Commerce Capacities in Trade and Investment Facilitation along East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC)” took place on 17th December in Khon Kaen, Thailand. The forum provided an opportunity for the project key stakeholders to share best practices and lessons learned, and strengthen EWEC business network. 45 representatives from all relevant stakeholders attended the event. Alice Pham was invited to attend and speak at this event.

Trade Promotion through Standardisation (Field visit to the Vietnam Rubber Group)

During December 4 – 5, 2012, Thanh Ha participated in a field visit to the Vietnam Rubber Group under the framework of the programme “Trade promotion through standardization”. From the Swedish Standards Institute (SIS), Ms. Carina Svensson and Ms. Babara Nebel attended the trip. From the VRG, Mr. Dang Quang Trung and Mr. Duong Duy Phu took part in the visit. Ms. Nguyen Thi Sang and Ms. Le Thi Thanh Ngoc from STAMEQ and Ms. Tran Thi Huong from VCCI were present. The activity is aimed to provide the project participants with the knowledge about the production process of rubber production in Vietnam and guide the implementation of ISO 14067.

Review Report on Vietnam Competition Law

On December 4th, 2012, Alice Pham and To Tam took part in the Conference to launch the “Review Report on Vietnam Competition Law” held by the Vietnam Competition Authority, Ministry of Industry and Trade at Melia Hanoi Hotel. The participants come mainly from government agencies, government institutes, universities, law firms and the press.

Trade Promotion through Standardisation (Nepal)

The Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) in cooperation with SAWTEE organised a 3-day workshop on “Trade Promotion through Standardisation in the South and South East Asia (SESA) regions” during October 21 – 23, 2012 at Gokarna Forest Hotel Resort in Kathmandu, Nepal. More than 40 participants from National Standard Bodies, private organisations and companies from 8 countries in South and South East Asia took part in the workshop to get understandings about the way to make comments and submit comments to the draft ISO 13065 on Criteria for Sustainable Bioenergy. They also discussed necessary preparations for upcoming events of the programme in Brisbane in 2013. Alice Pham and Thanh Ha attended this workshop.

Launch meeting of the project “Get Green Vietnam”

On November 7th, 2012, Thanh Ha participated in the Launch Meeting of the project “Get Green Vietnam” funded by SWITCH ASIA- European Union and led by Technology University of Delft (TUD), the Netherlands at Horison Hotel, Cat Linh Street, Hanoi. The ceremony was aimed to introduce the project to the public and set its initial network with the project objective to promote sustainable consumption by increasing the share of sustainable consumption by Vietnamese consumers and enhance capacity of consumer organizations in supporting consumers in making more sustainable choices.

Trade Promotion through Standardisation (Cambodia)

The Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) in cooperation with SAWTEE and the Institute of Standards of Cambodia organised a 2-day workshop on “Trade Promotion through Standardisation in the South and South East Asia (SESA) regions” during October 23 – 24, 2012 at Sunway Hotel in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. More than 40 participants from National Standard Bodies, private organisations and companies from 8 countries in South and South East Asia took part in the workshop to get understandings about the methodology to implement ISO 14067 Carbon Footprint of products and discuss necessary preparations for upcoming events of the programme in Nepal. Alice Pham and Thanh Ha attended this workshop.
