Competitive landscape of the market for infant formula products

A workshop to launch the Research Report on the competitive landscape of the market for infant formula products for babies under 12 months of age in Vietnam between 2009 – 2011 period undertaken by CUTS HRC was organised by the Central Institute of Economic Management (CIEM) on October 17, 2012. Representatives of VINASTAS, VCA, other relevant government agencies in Vietnam, and the media took part in this event. Alice Pham and To Tam represented CUTS in the event.

Vinamilk – First member of “Consumer Trust Business Club”

The Vietnam Standards and Consumer Protection Association (VINASTAS) organised a meeting on October 9th, 2012 to recognise the Vietnam Dairy Products JSC (Vinamilk) as the first member of its “Consumer Trust Business Club”. This is the first time that an enterprise has won this recognition after 1 year of implementation of the club – an activity realised with the support of CUTS HRC through its earlier project on strengthening the consumer protection movement in Vietnam. Alice Pham attended the meeting.

Trade Promotion through Standardisation (Vietnam)

The Swedish Standard Institute in cooperation with SAWTEE and the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality of Viet Nam (STAMEQ) organised a 2-day workshop on “Trade Promotion through Standardisation in the South and South East Asia (SESA) regions” during September 26 – 27 at Crowne Plaza in Hanoi, Vietnam. Nearly 40 participants from National Standard Bodies, private organisations and enterprises from 8 countries in South and South East Asia took part in the workshop to get understandings about ISO 14067 Carbon Footprint of products and discuss necessary preparations for upcoming events of the programme in Cambodia and Nepal. Alice Pham and Thanh Ha attended this workshop.

Implementation of the Law on Unfair Trade Practices in Vietnam

Within the framework of UTPs project, on September 21st, 2012, CUTS HRC in partnership with the Centre on Competition and Consumer Protection Law, Hanoi University of Law organised a conference entitled “Implementation of the Law on Unfair Trade Practices in Vietnam”. AP and TT were present at the conference.

Policy dialogue for the first time within the framework of the project

Ngày 12 tháng 9 năm 2012, CUTS HRC phối hợp cùng với Cục Quản lý cạnh tranh tổ chức.Cuộc Đối thoại chính sách lần thứ nhất trong khuôn khổ dự án UTPs tại khu vực ASEAN đã được tổ chức tại khách sạn Caravelle, thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, Việt Nam. Bên cạnh các đối tác của dự án, các bên liên quan khác và đại diện của các cơ quan cạnh tranh của Phi-lip-pin, Ma-lai-xi-a và Việt Nam tham gia sự kiện này. Từ phía CUTS HRC, tất cả các nhân viên đều có mặt. Từ văn phòng chính, ông Udai Singh Mehta cũng có mặt tại cuộc họp.

The First Policy Dialogue under UTPs project

On September 12, 2012, the first policy dialogue under the framework of UTPs in ASEAN project was organised at Caravelle Hotel, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam by CUTS HRC in cooperation with VCA. In addition to project partners, other stakeholders and representatives from competition authorities in the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam attended this event. From HRC, all staff was present. From HO, USM took part in the meeting.

Competition Policy and Law in ASEAN

AP participated in a Stakeholder Consultation Workshop within the framework of the project “Competition Policy and Law in ASEAN” (CPL), a cooperation between ASEAN and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), working upon commission by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in Vientiane on August 30-31, 2012. The objective of the workshop was to raise the general awareness about competition issues. In addition, the workshop would elaborate on the roadmap and outline of the Ministry of Industry & Commerce (MoIC) of Lao PDR for the formulation of a competition law for the country, in order get feedback from relevant stakeholders to refine the draft competition law.

One Year Since the Implementation of the Law on Protecting Consumers’ Interests – VINASTAS

TT attended a conference entitled “One year since the implementation of the Law on protecting consumers’ interests” held by the Vietnam Standards and Consumers Association (VINASTAS) in Kim Lien Hotel, Hanoi on July 26, 2012. The majority of participants include representatives of various consumer associations nation-wide and the media.
